Sakir Sömek

Sakir Sömek was born on 23rd of July, 1963 in Cyprus. He has graduated from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls on May 1985, with a BS degree in Business Administration and Minor in Economics. In May 1987 he has completed his Master's program at The American University in Washington D.C. with an MA degree in Economics. He has started his career as an “Assistant Specialist” in Treasury and International Operations Department of Turkish Bank Ltd. in Nicosia, Cyprus. Later joined Industrial Bank of Cyprus Heading the Marketing Unit of the Credit Cards Department. In November 1995 he has joined Körfezbank in Istanbul as an “Assistant Vice President” at the Financial Institutions Department. As a “Vice President” Mr. Sömek joined Alternatifbank in September 1998, heading the International Financial Institutions department and later in 2007 he has been promoted as the Executive Vice President in charge of the same department at Alternatifbank (ABank). Since 1996, Mr. Sömek has been taken active roles in the arrangement, marketing and documentation processes of the Syndicated Loans at the borrower side. Little over one decade he has taken active role in 18 syndicated facilities. Mr. Sömek is fluent in Turkish and English and fairly manages Greek and French. Major hobbies include playing tennis and involving in the preservation of wild life in Turkey, in particular “Birds of Asian Minor”.
