Sergio Souza

Sales Director
GE Wind

Sergio Souza is currently the Sales Director for GE Renewables in Latin America. His team of five Account Managers - one in Argentina, two in Brazil and two in Mexico - secured Wind commitments in excess of US$ 4 billion over the last five years. Latin America represents one of the fastest growing regions for the Renewables business. GE Wind is the market leader in the highly competitive Brazilian market, with 25% market share and a solid customer base. Sergio's commercial team is continuously looking to expand into growing markets such as Mexico and Argentina. Sergio began his General Electric career in 2000, with the acquisition of Woodward Governor Co. where he was a sales engineer for turbine control systems and retrofits. Previous to his current position, he served as Account Manager for GE Power Generation's Thermal business, with direct responsibility for the sale of Gas Turbines and Combined Cycle systems throughout the region in countries such as Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Chile. In 2008, he led the commercial efforts to enter the Latin American Wind market with focus on Brazil, resulting on 415MW of commitments in the inaugural 2009 Brazil Wind Auction. From then another very successful year in 2010 with over 400MW in the LFA and LER Auctions, coupled with 200MW in the ACL (Free Market). 2011 brought similar level of fresh commitments in the Auctions (A-3, LER and A-5) taking the total pipeline to around 1.5 GW of sales. GE's market position was strengthened in 2013 with the three Auctions (A-3, LER and A-5) where GE sold a combined volume of 1GW, and in 2014 with the June A-3 Auction, where GE sold another 215MW, taking the overall pipeline to almost 3GW. This success allowed GE Renewables to cement its position in the region's most robust wind market while providing the volume to build the local platform necessary for continued growth. In his current role, Sergio is responsible to maintain GE ahead of the competition in the Brazilian market, as well as expanding into other Latin America markets, finding profitable and adequate deals for the company. Sergio was born in Belo Horizonte, capital of the Brazilian state Minas Geraes, having lived in Chicago during his youth. He graduated from the UNICAMP - University of Campinas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998, and finished an MBA from INSPER in 2011. While in college, Sergio developed a career teaching English as a second language to businessman and professionals from companies such as Unilever, Coca Cola and Shell. He currently lives in São Paulo with his wife and three sons.
