Stephen Somerville

Stephen is an energy industry executive with eighteen years of demonstrated success, including all types of natural gas fired generation, wind, hydro, biomass, solar and biogas.
Stephen is currently Vice President, Corporate Development and Investor Relations with H20 Power where he leads and executes H2O’s growth strategy. Stephen is responsible for the acquisition, development and financing of hydroelectric projects across North America on behalf of its majority owner, Public Sector Pension Investment Board, a large Canadian pension fund.
Stephen lead multi-disciplinary teams in two separate successful acquisitions comprising sixteen U.S. hydro facilities representing almost 1,400 MW of nameplate capacity and over $2 Billion in value. He was H2O’s lead representative with Bay Street in the successful $400M re-financing of its existing Canadian debt and Stephen leads H2O’s consultation efforts with First Nations and has in the past negotiated Memorandum’s of Understanding and Partnership Agreements with various First Nation groups in Ontario and across Canada.
Prior to this, Stephen was a Vice President with Competitive Power Ventures (“CPV”), Inc. where he was responsible for the development of all CPV’s natural gas-fired power generation development projects (and associated natural gas pipeline and transmission lines) and large scale wind projects, across Canada.
Prior to joining CPV, Stephen was a member of the Probyn & Company and Clean Power Income Fund team responsible for business development and acquisitions.
Stephen is a long standing member of the Board of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario and the Ontario Water Power Association.
Stephen holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and an Honours B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Waterloo.
