Matthew Simonetti

Director, Global Structured Finance

Matthew (Matt) Simonetti is a Director within Citibank’s Global Structured Transportation Finance team.  The team is responsible for supporting Citibank’s institutional clients with advisory, structuring, and underwriting services for financing structures secured by transportation assets, including aircraft (eg commercial, business, helicopter), shipping containers and vessels, and rail equipment.  Asset Backed Securities (ABS), non-recourse and recourse term loans, secured bonds (EETCs), and private placements are of particular focus.

Matt is primarily responsible for a combination of airlines in North America and Europe and various global aircraft lessors.  He has been involved in non-U.S. EETC financings for Air Canada, British Airways, Emirates and Turkish Airlines, and he has led benchmark EETC issuances for most of the US airlines.  Matt has worked on commercial aircraft ABS transactions, including the sale of residual equity in the form of “E-Notes” to third party investors.

As Citi seeks to cultivate a broader global investor universe for structured transactions, Matt has been at forefront of educating and working with investors in Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Korea.

Matt was named Airline Economics’ ‘Top 40 Under 40’ in 2016 and 2018, and he holds B.S. degrees in Economics and Finance from the Pennsylvania State University graduating in 2007 with honors.
