Michael Creighton

Head: Export Credit Finance
Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking

Michael worked in the South African short term trade credit insurance industry for 15 years, joining Credit Underwriting Agency (CUAL) in 1993, an entity which in 2005 became Coface South Africa, and where he concluded his career as Executive Director. In May 2008 Michael joined Sace SpA, the Italian Export Credit Agency (ECA). This resulted in a shift of focus from short term trade credit insurance to export credit finance. He was responsible for Sace’s Business Development in Sub Saharan Africa, which required supporting Italian investments and exports in the region through a range of political risk insurance, credit insurance, financial guarantee and export credit finance products. In 2010 Michael was appointed a board member of the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI), an African multilateral financial institution providing export credit insurance, political risk insurance, investment insurance and other financial products to help reduce the business risks and costs of doing business in Africa. Michael is also currently chairperson of ATI’s finance and audit committee. In May 2012 Michael was transferred to Asia to head Sace’s Hong Kong office where he was responsible for developing Sace’s business in China and Asia Pacific. While in Asia Michael was also head of Sace’s short term trade credit operations in Hong Kong and Thailand (this was a joint venture between Sace and Assicurazioni Generali). In January 2015 Michael returned to Africa as Sace’s Head of Africa. Effective 1st June 2016 Michael was appointed as Head of Nedbank’s Export Credit Finance division. Michael has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, an Honours degree from the University of South Africa and an MBA from Henley Business School in the United Kingdom.
