Dr. Devon O. Niel Gardner

Devon Gardner is the Program Manager for Energy at the CARICOM Secretariat. He brings to this role, extensive experience in physical modeling and engineering design; resource assessment; policy development; and capacity building strategies for low carbon projects and has an extensive projects portfolio, derived through work with many entities throughout the Caribbean and Pacific SIDS. Devon has conducted numerous assessments of renewable energy resources, as well as policy analysis and capacity building activities throughout the Caribbean region. He has excellent knowledge of the regional energy sector that is coupled with a keen grasp of their renewable energy opportunities and potentials. Previous to his appointment at the Secretariat, Dr. Gardner was Technical Adviser to the GEF UNEP Energy for Sustainable Development (ESD) Project and the SIDS DOCK, both of which are operated from the CARICOM Climate Change Centre. He also served as Professor of Physical Chemistry and Dean of the School of Sciences and Technology at the University of the Southern Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago); Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the College of The Bahamas, and Northern Caribbean University (Jamaica); Senior Research Fellow in Chemical Physics at the University of Iceland, and the University of Leiden (The Netherlands); and Assistant Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of the West Indies (Mona). He has published over fifty peer reviewed articles and assessment studies and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry with from the University of the West Indies (Mona) in 2001.
