Julian Smith is an adviser to PT PricewaterhouseCoopers Indonesia Advisory, specialising in financial and commercial advice on Capital Projects & Infrastructure in the Transport Industry.
Julian is an experienced international corporate and infrastructure finance partner and has specialised in the transport sector for most of his career, regularly speaking at conferences and authoring publications. He joined PwC UK from university in 1986 and trained as a Chartered Accountant, before moving to Corporate Finance in 1994 where he cut his teeth on the privatisation of British Rail. He has worked on transactions and strategy assignments in many other countries including port privatisations in Sweden and Jamaica, bus privatisation in Jordan, railway project finance in Russia and Africa and transport strategy in USA and Ukraine.
In London he was leader of PwC’s transport sector corporate finance/PPP team and relationship partner for the UK Department for Transport. He advised private sector operators on business plans and bid preparation for many passenger rail concessions and he advised the Department on its two large PPP deals for rolling stock procurement. He moved to Moscow in January 2011 to be CEE Capital Projects & Infrastructure Leader, and worked on the planned High Speed rail project. He was then appointed PwC Global Transport & Logistics Industry Leader.
